The Politics of Mythology by Danny Schechter Link Even as progressives complain that Obama has moved Right even if he occasionally talks Left, the hard-core right-wing see him a black revolutionary shaped by Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s black liberation theology with allusions to Malcolm X and Kenyan communists thrown into the mix to “prove” their case. Never mind that Obama threw his one-time religious mentor Wright under the bus in 2008, or that his policies rarely speak of the needs of a black community suffering under the burden of high joblessness, foreclosures and growing poverty. In fact, real black revolutionaries like Cornell West find the President a sell-out and an embarrassment even if their community embraces him more as an identity issue or on the basis of shared pigmentation, The recent proposal for Wall Street trader and Cub's owner Joe Ricketts to recycle the alleged Obama-Wright conspiracy into a defamatory political-ad campaign spoke more to his advisers’ demagoguery than to any truth-based assessment. Had the New York Whore Times not exposed it, this $10 million dollar race-based smear likely would have gone forward. Because it was exposed, even Mitt Romney — who hasn’t met a right-wing talking point he won’t embrace – had to distance himself from it, It's too bad that Rev. Wright thing fizzled before it started. It would've been fun, Oh well, the GOP will think of another mean-spirited, false attack to run against Obama. Send e-mail to Bart Shop Online

Why couldn't he just keep his mouth shut? Paying Taxes is Patriotic Why do Republicans hate America? Link Now here comes Grover Norquist, who compares the senior senator from New York to members of the political party of Heinrich Himmler and Adolf Eichmann. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) believes that when this country gives an American the gift of being able to use his talents to become an extraordinarily wealthy man, it is wrong for that person to renounce his American citizenship to avoid paying his fair share of taxes. I cannot think of a proposal more worthy than the bill proposed by Sens. Schumer and Bob Casey to redress this wrong. I believe the overwhelming majority of patriotic Americans would strongly agree with Schumer. Grover Norquist has every right to disagree and rise in defense of tax evaders who renounce their Americanism to avoid their taxes. He even has the right to compare Schumer to the party of Himmler and Eichmann. But I would propose that this is Exhibit A of what I call the campaign from hell, an intolerance and vindictiveness unworthy of our nation, in which one party is exponentially more guilty than the other. But that should apply to businesses, too. If congress wasn't full of bought-and-paid-for pigs on the teat, (should I bother to finish this sentence?) they would pass a law that says if you want to do business in America, you register as an American corporation and whoever doesn't like it can close up and move to fucking China. Apple has a PO Box in Ireland, so they avoid paying billions in American taxes. If congress wasn't 100 percent crooked, we could get that, but noooooooooooooo.. Send e-mail to Bart My Break with the Extreme Right by Michael Fumento Link I was always way ahead of the curve. And my exposés primarily appeared in right-wing publications. Back when they were interested in serious research. I also founded a conservative college newspaper, held positions in the Reagan administration and at several conservative think tanks, and published five books that conservatives applauded. I’ve written for umpteen major conservative publications – National Review, the Weekly Standard, the Wall Street Journal and Forbes, among them. But no longer. That was the old right. The last thing hysteria promoters want is calm, reasoned argument backed by facts. And I’m horrified that these people have co-opted the name “conservative” to scream their messages of hate and anger. It's cool when a Republican's hate and bigotry goes into remission. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: The Secrets of Watergate by Robert Parry Bart: If you can't trust G. Gordon Liddy, who can you trust? Steve Send e-mail to Bart They Rape Kids in Philadelphia They had 37 rapist priests and did NOTHING Link “What makes Philadelphia devastating is allegations that priests who were facing credible accusation of sex abuse were still working in parishes as recently as February,” says a CNN analyst. “This is not about misconduct that happened 50 years go. This is about the failures of today.” The scandal hit Philadelphia five months ago, when a grand jury charged four priests and a parochial school teacher with raping and assaulting boys in their care. The charges were unusual because they went beyond accusations against priests. A church higher-up was charged with covering up the abuse, which church experts say had never happened in the United States before. But the grand jury also took the unusual step of releasing a report alleging that as many as 37 priests remained in ministry in Pennsylvania despite credible accusations of abuse. Are we really going to send John Edwards to prison for 30 years for paying his blackmailer and slap the wrists of the monsters to let 37 rapoists commit their crimes for decades? Send e-mail to Bart Will Hatch get Teabagged? Link After spending an astonishing $5 million, Hatch secured 59 percent at last month’s state convention, three times what Bennett got in ’10. But he fell a handful of votes shy of the 60 percent threshold that would have handed him the nomination on the spot and was instead forced into a primary with Liljenquist. There’s been no reputable polling on the race, but the assumption is that Hatch is comfortably ahead, and that making noise about debates won’t do much to help Liljenquist. The bad news for Hatch, as Charlie Mahtesian pointed out earlier, is that there’s a lot of time between now and the June 26 primary. Here the threat to Hatch really isn’t Liljenquist and anything he might say and do; it’s an outside group or individual deciding to target the race and pour big money into the anti-Hatch effort. If this were to happen, it might not matter that Hatch has given his enemies little in the way of ammunition. With enough money, anyone can be made to look bad. And the one thing Hatch can’t run away from is his political longevity, which is a liability to today’s outsider/purity-obsessed GOP base. Send e-mail to Bart Marty

Sarah Palin Nude Link Subject: Solar Bart, I worked on a fed-funded solar and conservation research project back in the Carter years, and unfortunately, into the Raygun abyss which is where he sent responsible energy policy. And that was how many decades ago? We said back then and it is still true today - solar, et al will not become "popular" or "desirable" until the polluters have wrung every last penny out of the earth. Then, they will turn to the "alternatives." But they will demand (and get) massive subsidies for their "exploration" and "investment" in the "new" energies. Same as always. The tax credits went away while the rest of the world was advancing. But they will come back, at least for corporate "citizens" to cushion the "risk" that the multi-national energy conglomerates will take. Same as always. Frankly, I do not see things improving BECAUSE their grip is so tight and complete. You are correct - where is the action? Tom We can always hope Obama leans Left in his second term. Link Send e-mail to Bart Dems Push Equal Pay for Women They know the women-hating GOP will oppose it Link Senate Democrats are advancing legislation to beef up equal pay protections for women, the latest salvo in the election-year battle for women voters. Milquetoast Harry Reid (D-NV) is set to file cloture Thursday on the Paycheck Protection Act, which would strengthen protections for women who sue for pay discrimination. The move puts Republicans in an uncomfortable position as they work to repair their weak brand image with women voters ahead of the November election. Five female Democratic senators talked up the bill Wednesday afternoon during a Capitol briefing — and made clear they intend to hammer Republicans as anti-women if they stand in its way. Mark your calendar - today is the day when our Democrats got something right. I'll never forget May 25, 2012. Send e-mail to Bart Today's Mystery Car

M Capper Send e-mail to Bart Obama's Mess: Medical pot in Montana "I might get 20 years in prison because Obama flip-flopped on marijuana policy." Link Tom Daubert, 59, faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a $500,000 fine for following Montana's pot laws to the letter. He did NOT count on Obama waging a jihad against his legal business that was helping sick people. So, what's the lesson here - don't follow the law? Maybe second-term Obama will help overturn the craziness of first-term Obama.
