Big Brother in the White House?

Judging by the caterwauling of many in the national media, you’d think Orwell’s Big Brother had
taken over the White House. The Justice Department’s issuance of subpoenas to press organizations
to find out who in the government had leaked classified information to the Associated Press and to
Fox News reporter James Rosen has First Amendment purists in an uproar.
The way some of them carry on, you’d think the light of freedom had been extinguished.
Glenn Greewald opines that “it is virtually impossible at this point to overstate the threat
posed by the Obama DOJ to press freedoms.”
Eric Boehlert sounds similarly overwrought: “Whether it was the Department of Justice’s wild overreach
in seizing phone records of more than 20 separate telephone lines used by Associated Press editors and
reporters, or the Department’s more focused, yet even more troubling, information grab of a Fox News
reporter, the practice is wrong and shortsighted. It’s also un-American.”
Un-American, mind you.
Almost needless to say, Republicans sensing an Obama weakness are going along for the ride—even many
who thought Bush attorney general Alberto Gonzales’ threat to prosecute New York Times reporters for
revealing the existence of a massive NSA eavesdropping operation was a terrific idea.
Why are Glenn Greenwald and Eric Bohlert carrying water for the Republicans?
Republicans sure love it when Democrats accuse Obama of treason.
I don't think "Obama" and "wild overreach" go in the same sentence.

They illegally dumped toxic waste in 16 Cali counties

Walmart, which has endured a year of bad publicity around its US labour relations and
working conditions in its overseas supply chain, on Tuesday pleaded guilty to dumping
hazardous waste in numerous sites in California.
The retail giant will now pay a fine of $81m to settle misdemeanour charges around the issue,
which also covers allegations of misdoings in Missouri. It brings an end to an investigation that
has lasted nearly a decade.
Walmart admitted that it had negligently dumped pollutants into sanitation drains across
California, and also tossed waste into local trash bins. Some material was also improperly
taken to product return centers throughout the US without proper safety documentation.
Once again, Obama proves he's the Worst. Negotiator. Ever.
Walmart will continue to dump hazardous waste - because there's no downside to breaking the law.
If nobody from corporate America ever goes to jail, white collar crime will continue and get worse.
If you dump hazardous waste in 16 counties over the years, no problem.
Just pay .00001% of your profits from last year as a fine and Obama is happy.
But if you grew some pot, you have to go to prison for over a decade.
"Eric, don't worry about Walmart or terrorists or Banksters,
just raid some pot farms - and I want it done today!"

The collapse of an bridge in Washington state should be a wake-up call that prompts an expansive
safety review, according to Debbie Hersman, chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board.
"At the end of the day, it's about preventing an accident like this," she said Saturday
after examining the collapsed structure in the Skagit River.
The bridge came down last week after a truck bumped against the steel framework,
sending two vehicles into the river. Three people involved escaped with non-life threatening injuries.
An investigation by The Whore AP suggests similar accidents could happen elsewhere. Duh!
Thousands of bridges around the U.S. are kept standing by engineering design, rather than sheer size
or redundant protections. Such spans may be one freak accident or mistake away from collapse.
You'd have to be a gay, athiest socialist to want to fix our crumbling bridges.
Repairing the infrastructure would save lives, save money and put millions of Americans to work,
but America can't do that because the Fascist minority Teabaggers want to America to fail.

New Pope is Fallible After All
He's taking back what he said about athiests

A Vatican spokesliar is walking back remarks Pope Francis made last week suggesting that atheists
and people of other faiths who do good deeds are also redeemed “with the blood of Christ,”
a statement that contradicts Catholic teaching that “outside the church there is no salvation.”
The Rev. Thomas Rosica (I don't remember him getting any votes for Pope) issued a corrective
to the pope’s homily and suggested that, basically, he made a big mistake and he's sorry.
Just when we thought the new Pope miiiiiiiiiiiight be showing some signs of sanity.
The Pope apparently agrees with Rush and FOX News, that the reason the Church is seeing people
stay away in droves is because they're too modern and need to get back to good old caveman thinking.
Plus, Perkel's going to be pissed - he said nice things about the Pope's "giant mistake."

Bachmann Pulls a Palin, Quits
Says she won't run for re-election

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Batshit), a leading Teabagger and a 2012 joke presidential candidate,
announced that she will not seek re-election next year in Minnesota's sixth congressional district.
Bachmann, who was set for another re-match against Democrat Jim Graves in 2014, insisted that
the decision had nothing to do with her probably landslide loss to Graves. She narrowly defeated
Graves last year and, facing a number of campaign finance investigations into her presidential bid,
was considered vulnerable. Bachmann also denied that her crimes played any role in her decision.
Bachmann added that, like Palin, she will give serious consideration to any future opportunity,
whether it's involved in politics or snake handling - whatever, "if it can help save our great nation."

Colorado's governor signed six marijuana regulatory bills into law Tuesday while
the state awaits to see how bad Obama's hysterical hissy-fit freak-out if going to be.
Some highlights from Colorado's new green laws:
Visitors
to Colorado can only buy a quarter-ounce in a single transaction.The
new law gives local governments the power to ban retail pot sales if
they wish, prompting the possibility that marijuana sales will be mostly in bigger cities.
The laws
create a new crime of sharing marijuana with someone under 21. The law says
drivers are too stoned to drive if their blood contains more than 5 nanograms per milliliter of THC
I can live with all of that.

Bart: I GOT THIS ONE!! the current mystery city is Mont Saint Michel, a city built
around a monastery on an island off the coast of Brittany France. I went here last year
and actually stayed in a place on the island for 2 nights that had INCREDIBLE views.
The amazing part is the city that surrounds the monastery is a really loud touristy kind
of dirty place. When you actually go on the self guided tour of the monastery it is
incredible and nothing like the surrounding streets. When you actually get to the top
the view would rival any "Don't look down" photos you have ever posted.
