Bart...you were a rare treasure in this world. You helped keep me sane through the dark and dreary Boosch years...yes, all eight of them. Dunno how you managed to keep swinging so tirelessly through that time, but you did. And I really appreciated your hard work, wicked sense of humor and style. I'll miss you.

My mom introduced me to Bartcop when I was in 6th grade in a tiny shitty elementary school in upstate ny. A lot of my classmates didn't even know what politics were, but boy when Clinton was impeached i was telling all my friends quotes that my mom read allowed to us when we got home from school. The news would be on, and we'd crack up laughing at whatever bart had to say that day. He's been with me ever since. I read him in high school, college, and graduate school. I've suggested him to all of my liberal-hippie-douche friends at some point in any political discussion. We miss you bartcop. You gave us a voice, you wrote what I thought. Your logic was brilliant and your humor just made sense. There's so much more I wanna say, but I could only sum up how much you mean to me, with a hug.
*hugs*

I am grieving at the loss of a unique talent it has been my good fortune to have followed since 1998. He was a dear man of insight and wit, who made me laugh during very dark days. I admired his fighting spirit. Less well known was his generosity to those in need financially and spiritually. I had a lot of fun here, Bart. I'm glad you enjoyed my chimps. Thanks for everything, Bart. A sad day to lose the hammer. With fond memories forever.

How I'd love to hear what Bart had to say about Phelps croaking. Maybe somebody out there can take a stab at it and send it to Perkel to post on Bartcop.

Before I get flamed, I told Jennie the correct school, not sure how it wound up in print as MU. Here is The Tulsa Voice story:

I could not have made it through the Bush years without Bart. I am so sad to hear of his passing. He will be missed by many, particularly those of us who live in Red States.

I think before I moved over to Democratic Underground I spent a lot of time here reading. I once sent Bart a comment and was surprised he responded. I don't even remember what that was. My heart goes out to everyone who is feeling his loss. This is a great website..and found a lot of info here, I never read elsewhere. Thank you!

Wow I'm taken aback. During the Bush years this site was the best thing going on the net. R.I.P. Bart and condolences Ms. Bart.

Just heard the news on Truthout... "Bart" was a hero to many who knew the truth about BushCo but had no means to stop the insanity they brought to the USofA, which continues to this day - so someone has to take up the yoke of freedom now to support W R Pitt and others who share our progressive outlook on life..... RIP Bart !!
